Mental health matters at UPS

Our commitment shows up in the ways we work, lead and care for our people.

At UPS, safety is part of who we are. And while physical wellness – like road safety and staying hydrated – often comes to mind first, mental and emotional well-being are just as essential to how our people take care of themselves, each other and our customers.

Mental health is a priority across all UPS business units, and we’re committed to supporting every UPSer around the world – including contract-based and temporary workers. Here’s how:

A small group of adults sit in a circle during a support group meeting. A man in the center holds his hands over his chest as he speaks, suggesting an emotional or heartfelt moment. Warm sunlight enters through a nearby window, creating a calm and intimate atmosphere. The participants appear engaged and attentive to the speaker.

Every employee and their household have access to free mental health support through Resources for Living, starting on their first day with UPS.

Services include counseling, addiction and suicide prevention resources, 24/7 hotline support, and help with everyday needs like financial assistance, childcare, adoption and pregnancy support, education planning, and legal or budgeting questions. UPSers: You can get more information here.

A person wearing a teal and black jacket carries a backpack while walking through a dense forest. The subject is viewed from the side with their face obscured, focusing attention on the outdoor gear. Lush green foliage surrounds the hiker, suggesting a nature trail or woodland hike. The overall scene conveys exploration and adventure in a natural setting.

Mental health is part of our day-to-day operations through the Comprehensive Health & Safety Process (CHSP).

We include mental well-being in our CHSP, the same program we use to check facilities and equipment, suggest ways to improve how work gets done and provide safety compliance training. CHSP committees bring together union-represented employees and management to strengthen health, safety and overall wellness in our facilities.

A woman sits cross-legged on a mustard-yellow sofa, practicing meditation. She is indoors in a cozy living room with green walls and soft natural light streaming in. Her hands rest on her knees in a relaxed pose, and she wears a patterned top and light-colored pants. Shadows and warm sunlight create a calm, peaceful atmosphere.

To be the best in the industry, UPSers practice like athletes: train, fuel, rest, thrive.

Our Industrial Athlete program encourages UPSers to stay fit, get proper nutrition, rest well and take care of their mental health. It’s our daily approach to helping our people practice mindfulness, reduce stress and talk openly about physical and mental well-being.

A man in a bright yellow sweatshirt works on a laptop at a table. He is seated in a modern kitchen with light wood cabinets and a built-in oven in the background. Green plants and soft natural light create a relaxed, homey atmosphere. A mug sits on the table, suggesting he may be working or studying from home.

We meet UPSers where they are, extending mental health programming to local facilities and developing creative ways to promote wellness.

We even created our own brown noise to help employees relax, improve focus and support better sleep. To reach every UPSer, we offer health fairs, webinars and employee engagement activities around the world, in addition to mental health awareness training for our global management team. This training helps leaders recognize when someone may be in distress and respond appropriately.

A group of adults sits in rows, attentively listening during an indoor seminar or workshop. The participants hold notebooks and folders on their laps, suggesting a professional or educational setting. Large windows in the background let in natural light, creating an open and modern atmosphere. The focus is on engagement and learning within a casual business environment.

Beyond specific mental health resources, we offer the pay, benefits and policies our people need to thrive.

Across our global workforce of 400,000+ employees, we provide competitive pay, strong benefits and paid time off – backed by a culture that supports long-term growth. In fact, 80% of our U.S. management team were promoted from within the company, reflecting our commitment to our people at every stage of their careers. Many positions offer flexible scheduling, paid caregiver leave, family planning benefits, preventive care resources or even a personalized health concierge.

Kết quả cuối cùng: “We truly believe the most important stop of any UPSer’s day is the last one: safe at home with their family. But safety isn’t just physical – mental and emotional wellbeing are also essential,” said CEO Carol B. Tomé. “Our people are known for delivering for everyone else, but we have to make sure we are taking care of ourselves, too. UPSers, I want you to know: YOU and your mental health are wildly important to me.”

“We have a long-standing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of UPSers,” echoed Chief Human Resources Officer Darrell Ford. “Life can get heavy – let’s lighten the load for one another.”
