What’s the story: UPS doesn’t just deliver packages, we deliver good in the world … and we have the plan to back it up. The steps we have taken to advance our sustainability goals are reflected in our twentieth edition, 2021 UPS Corporate Sustainability Reports.

As the Official Logistics Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, we delivered one of the most sustainable World Expos, showing how the logistics industry can make positive changes.

Why it matters: Our sustainability reports show the progress of our environmental, social and government (ESG) journey. We have set goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and improving the well-being of 1 billion lives by 2040.

What’s next: Many of the initiatives announced at the world fair, are part of UPS’s day-to-day operations around the world.

  • Electric vehicles (EVs): Globally we have more than 13,300 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles deployed worldwide. UPS has committed to purchase up to 10,000 custom-built EVs, with many more to deploy later this year.
  • Alternative fuel technology: The Fernhay eQuad bikes that debuted during the Expo are being tested in the streets in London, New York and Paris. UPS will continue to test new ways to serve customers while reducing our carbon footprint and traffic congestion.
  • A greener planet: The UPS Forest of the Future initiative plants a tree for every customer that shipped a package at UPS counters on-site at the mega event. We have planted close to 10,000 trees and contributed more than 700 volunteer hours through various activities at the event.

Looking ahead: The solar panels positioned on DP World's pavilion will be used as a platform for future sustainable UAE operations. Throughout the six-month event, we charged our EVs using an off-grid, solar powered charging system for the first time.

Deep diver: Listen to a fireside chat where Dina Storey, Director of Sustainability Operations at Expo 2020 and Peter Harris, Vice President of International Sustainability at UPS, share their insights on the future of sustainability.
