As the UPS community mourns the passing of Jack Rogers, we reflect on the impact he made during a pivotal chapter in our history. His tenure delivered milestones that continue to serve our customers around the world.
Jack started loading and delivering packages at UPS in 1957, going on to build nearly 30 years of experience in operations and leadership roles before serving as our CEO and Chairman from 1984 to 1989.
The business world was changing quickly, and Jack pushed UPS to evolve alongside it. He led us to major service expansions that forever shifted our role in global logistics: UPS Next Day Air reached every address in the lower 48, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Our international service grew to more than 180 countries and territories. And we officially launched UPS Airlines.
Jack also knew technology’s role in commerce was growing, and he invested in tech-focused talent and acquisitions to ensure we kept pace.
In retirement, Jack’s commitment to our company’s success continued, and he served on our Board of Directors until 1996. He remained active in the community as a trustee of the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Jack’s leadership shaped the company we know today. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones as we remember his contributions to UPS and beyond.
