Package car driver Vinny Mendez loves spreading cheer during UPS’s busiest time of the year. And not just by delivering holiday packages to eager customers north of Detroit.

Vinny is also a musician, passionate about hip hop. He’s able to write, produce and play several instruments, ranging from the guitar to keyboard.

In 2021, he made a song about UPS’s peak season.

“It started out as something just for fun,” he said. “I wanted to create something relatable that might make people smile. And people really liked it.”

He knew he needed a part two.

A few months ago, Vinny started taking notes when inspiration struck – of various aspects of the job he knew all drivers experienced.

He then went to work in his basement studio.

“I have a lot of love for creating music, it’s my passion,” he said.

Vinny started at UPS as a seasonal driver in 2016, earning a full-time delivery role in July 2017.

“I was trying to do music full time and had some side jobs, too,” he said. “But it wasn’t really happening. Then UPS came around right about when I met my wife, Marissa. I knew this was a real-deal career.

Vinny is now at top rate, and values the healthcare benefits for him, Marissa and their three kids.

“Coming here was all about my family,” he said. “I didn’t want to just take any job. It’s challenging for sure, but I like being out and about and being active, I really like driving – it all just fit. I’m very blessed and I’m liking the spot I’m in.”
