What’s the story: Betsy Siam Zaldivar immigrated to America from Cuba in search of new opportunities. Through UPS’s Earn & Learn program*, she was able to pay for college and graduate from the University of Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

Betsy studied journalism in Cuba before putting her education on hold to move to the U.S. She arrived looking for work, a way to finish her education and a place to call home. She found all three when she landed in Louisville, Kentucky, and started working for UPS.

Growing with UPS: Betsy began as a warehouse associate and was quickly promoted. After earning her degree, she worked as a part-time operations supervisor and then took on a new role in Human Resources. “I wanted to stay at UPS because I like the opportunity to move around, grow and challenge myself,” Betsy said.

It didn’t take long for her talent to get noticed and now she’s looking forward to pursuing her master’s degree in management while working in the engineering department.
