At UPS, you can start as a seasonal or part-time hourly employee and work your way into our full-time driver or management ranks to pursue a lifelong career.
UPSer Chris Boots had been applying to nearly 100 jobs a week when he learned about seasonal opportunities at UPS ahead of our busy peak season. He applied and was offered a part-time package handler job. And just months after joining, he was promoted to supervising part-time employees. After previously struggling to find work, he now sees UPS as not just a job, but a career.
Here’s what we’re doing:
- In 2021, more than 14,000 part-time employees advanced to full-time roles in the company.
- Seasonal opportunities are a proven pathway to permanent positions at UPS. Following 2021 peak season, UPS hired nearly 35,000 seasonal employees, or more than 30%, into permanent jobs.
- A number of past and current UPS senior leaders started in hourly positions at the company. In fact, UPS’s current President of U.S. Operations, Nando Cesarone, began his career as a part-time pre-loader, responsible for loading packages into package cars.
Regardless of whether employees have career goals that include UPS, we offer benefits like tuition assistance to support their education. In 2021 alone, the company invested nearly $30 million in education assistance programs that are open to both full- and part-time employees. Since 1997, UPS has provided $375 million in tuition assistance to our part-time union employees.
Through our education programs, strong wages and benefits, and opportunities for upward mobility, we are committed to supporting our employees no matter what their journey holds.
