The UPS Foundation has made a nearly $125,000 grant to India-based Sampark Foundation to help reach children in rural areas with innovative science programs.
Why it matters: The funding will go toward the continued development of tech-enabled resources and trainings that break down educational disadvantages. Government primary schools and teachers will have more access to interactive tools like videos, animated content, quizzes and worksheets – available even in classrooms without electricity.
This initiative builds off last year’s successful pilot of accessible science programs for sixth-grade students in Himachal Pradesh, the northernmost state of India.
Grades are in: During the partnership’s first year, we trained 800 teachers and impacted the lives of 20,000 students in 400 schools throughout the state.
“I went through the orientation process and found all the resources very useful for teachers as well as students,” said Vijay Kumar secondary school teacher in Himachal Pradesh. “This program has helped me engage students in a more effective manner.”
Class is in session: We’re committed to supporting the next generation of leaders in India. Through this program, we'll impact 1,150 schools and reach 50,000 students in eight of the state’s 12 districts – putting equity at the heart of accessible education.
“We’re proud to partner with Sampark Foundation, leveraging technology for quality education,” said Christina Struller, vice president of corporate affairs at UPS. “This impactful government supported program is a game changer for teachers, makes learning science exciting for students, and will lead to improved learning outcomes.”
