What’s new: When communities around the world felt the grip of COVID-19, UPS stepped up to help. That support continued recently when the lockdown in Shanghai, China brought unprecedented challenges to the city of 26 million.

This time, The UPS Foundation worked with Operation Blessing and Ren Ai Charity Foundation to deliver relief items, community disinfection and social support to communities in Shanghai impacted by lockdowns.

A team effort: UPSers volunteered more than 1,700 hours packing and distributing relief materials, assisting in nucleic acid tests and organizing community group buying to help residents secure the things they need. Our employees aim to deliver 30 million volunteer hours by 2030.

“I’m glad to have volunteered as a group buying leader and help deliver basic necessities like rice and vegetables to our neighbors,” said Rock Zhang, assistant manager of regulatory and risk based in Shanghai. “I’m proud to give back to the community, and the positive spirit will surely contribute to our recovery from the pandemic.”

The UPS Foundation worked with local charity partners to provide household essential packs, as well as pandemic prevention packs for hospitals and community organizations. It also supported community disinfection for approximately 100,000 beneficiaries across 18 communities in the Pudong area, Changning, Minhang, Huangpu and Songjiang districts.

Customer first: While The UPS Foundation and volunteers serve the community, business continues to operate. Staying connected to our customers is essential.

“Our customers’ needs are always the first priority,” said Zhaowen Lu, team leader of import sort operations. “We are fully committed to ensure that they receive the consistent high quality of service even in this uncertain time.”
