Bill Seward is staying busy. Recently named president of UPS Supply Chain Solutions, he oversees freight, warehousing, distribution, as well as new priorities in healthcare – basically everything logistics.

An experienced outlook: Bill has been with UPS for more than 25 years. Backing up a team that works with customers and providers from Seoul to Cartagena, Bill’s global experience adds to his segment’s knowledge of industries like healthcare, tech, automotive, aerospace, retail and e-commerce.

And would you believe Bill started as a part time package handler?

“I began with UPS when I was playing college basketball as a part timer. I'm from New York City and worked in the 43rd Street building with the parcel business,” Bill said. “I was fortunate enough to take on more responsibility through a couple of assignments and a couple of relocations.”

The secret is out: Flash forward to today, and UPS Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) was again named a Leader in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant Third-Party Logistics.

This is the fifth time that SCS has been recognized for its ability to execute and completeness of vision, as well as the expertise of its people and the sustainable practices at its heart.

  • Bill and other organization leaders are invested in logistics technology that changes how businesses partner with UPS. UPS Supply Chain Symphony® is a portal that helps companies with data-driven decision making and allows them to refocus and devote time back to running their business.
  • In recent years, UPS Healthcare has made incredible strides, like with its acquisition of leading international provider Bomi Group, its expansion of the next-generation UPS® Premier service, and milestones like one facility’s incredible work shipping one billion COVID-19 test kits.
  • And sustainability is center to everything. Bill’s team is doing its part toward UPS’s goals of achieving 100% carbon neutrality by 2050, investing in 15,600 alternate fuel and advanced technology vehicles and others.

Today, Bill and team are driven by a simple lesson learned back in those early New York days:

“If you're making a change in a process or a procedure, you have to be able to document a marked improvement in outcomes,” Bill said. “What I learned my first weeks on the job at UPS – and I've tried to live by – is about executing, as opposed to always trying to figure out the next model, the next change of the dial.”
