The monsoon rains in June fell longer and heavier than ever before in Pakistan, covering a third of the country, causing the death of over 1,700 people and displacement of millions. Rural parts of the country were the worst hit. Forecasters predict that it will take six months for the waters to recede.
Coming together: The UPS Foundation, UPS Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) in Pakistan and Universal Logistics Services – a UPS authorized service contractor in Pakistan – came together to support the relief efforts.
- UPS SCS and Universal Logistics Services provided 33 trucks that transported 241 tons of aid. That’s 11,000 bags of essentials like food, drinking water and medical supplies supporting relief efforts by The Citizen Foundation, Baitussalam Welfare Trust and JDC Foundation.
- In partnership with Pakistan Association of Dubai, UAE-based UPS employees donated over 800kg of dry food items, bedding and sanitary pads.
- The UPS Foundation funded emergency relief efforts for 37,000 children through UNICEF, for the World Food Program, and arranged in-kind support to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Why it matters: The UPS Foundation’s mission is to deliver pathways to empower resilient, just, and safe communities and remain present in the community – especially during times of crisis. Humanitarian relief, like that in Pakistan, takes committed partners with shared goals.
Go deeper: UPS doesn’t just deliver packages; we deliver good in the world and we have the plan to back it up. The steps we have taken to advance our sustainability and social impact goals are reflected in 2021 UPS Corporate Sustainability Reports.
