A day of observance: November 11 is Veterans Day in the U.S. – a time to recognize all who’ve served in the military and sacrificed for freedom. At UPS, we’re proud to honor more than 25,000 UPSers whose military experience is now helping us deliver what matters every day.

Shared values: “From my own experience in the Army, I can say UPS and veterans are a natural fit,” said Norm Brothers, chief legal and compliance officer. “Service members bring powerful skillsets to UPS and often find common ground in values like integrity, accountability and service to others.”

Case in point: Earlier this year, a crew made up entirely of military veterans participated in Thunder Over Louisville, the annual airshow that kicks off the Kentucky Derby in the backyard of UPS’s largest air hub. Hear directly from some of those pilots and ground crew in this video.

How UPS is proudly showing up: The UPS Foundation committed more than $575,000 in grants and sponsorships to advance programs supporting military veterans last year. And that’s not all. Our Veterans Business Resource Group works to support military veterans and employees active in the National Guard and Reserve by recognizing their leadership and essential skills. The group has 20 chapters across the U.S. with over 400 members and helps integrate veterans into the UPS workforce.

Get engaged: Pay tribute to the men and women in uniform, past and present, by getting involved with our community partners. Here are a few that advance opportunities for veterans:

  • American Corporate Partners – Helps veterans transition from the military to the civilian workforce.
  • Honor Flight Kentucky – Flies World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans to Washington D.C. to visit to the memorials dedicated to their service.
  • Operation Gratitude – Provides opportunities to say ‘thank you’ to military, veterans and first responders through hands-on volunteerism.
  • Operation Ramp It Up – Builds ramps to provide home mobility for veterans, their families or anyone with a physical disability.
  • Paralyzed Veterans of America – Helps paralyzed and disabled veterans regain their independence after injury or diagnosis.
