What’s new: This winter, seven military veterans will be the first to join UPS’s new management training program designed to help veterans like them quickly transition from active duty to civilian work – and a UPS career.

Why it matters: Transitioning from the military can be challenging, but service members bring important skillsets to UPS, as well as shared values like accountability, integrity and service to others.

“Veterans have mortgages and families to support after they leave active military duty,” said Jeff Grant, West Region HR vice president. “This is a great way to provide them full-time work while helping them apply their skills in a culture that understands and appreciates the qualities they bring.”

In the fast lane: The new nine-week training – launched through a partnership with a local veterans agency – is a deep dive into how UPS works and a fast track to a full-time management position in delivery operations. The program includes:

  • Graduating from Integrad, UPS’s premier driver training program.
  • Mastering fundamentals of a driver’s job by delivering packages through the holiday peak season.
  • Completing essential on-the-job management training: safety methods, preload, telematics and labor training to do their jobs efficiently.

The program is currently being piloted in California with plans to expand to Texas next year.
