One love: Tennis phenom Coco Gauff is serving up winning shots on and off the court in partnership with UPS to help small business owners score big!

We’re combining Coco’s post-match ritual of watching anime with our shared appreciation for the strength of small business owners in our latest collaboration: “Coco vs. The Doubters

Watch Coco and real Gen Z small business owners take on the doubters:

Gen Z = the future of innovation, creativity and purpose, period. About 80% of Gen Zers dream of starting their own business, but uncertainty and lack of access to support often derails these dreams before they can truly blossom.

People told me I was too young, that I needed to focus on tennis, not do multiple things at once, and stay in my lane,” Coco said. “I saw there were a lot of characteristics that were similar with small business owners – even though our roles are so different, we have a lot in common because doubters have fueled us.”

Meet our unstoppable SMB founders who are ready to serve up success:

Ben Johnson, founder of Sneaker Mechanic

Ben has been obsessed with sneakers since he was a toddler. After the loss of a close friend, he decided to follow his dream – creating his business that offers sneaker customizations, repairs and more.

“With any art-based work there is a lot of subjectivity. You’re not going to please everyone all the time,” Ben said. “I just try to ignore any negativity and focus on making what I’m passionate about and taking care of my clients’ needs.”

Collin Gill, co-founder of Frères Branchiaux

After his parents urged him and his brothers to pursue their dreams of entrepreneurship, the boys founded the candle company Frères Branchiaux. Together the boys have blended hundreds of candles with scents that evoke amber nights, bark lavender and more.

“I overcome my doubters by remembering what adversity I have already overcome: Not being taken seriously as a Gen Z business owner while also balancing being a D1 student-athlete. If I can get through all of that, there is NOTHING that a doubter can say to stop me,” Collin said.

Kristen Duning, founder of Gently Soap

Battling with eczema, Kristen was determined to find something that would truly nourish her skin. Using her knowledge of agriculture and plant medicines, she began to study and create her own soaps, and in 2020 she released them to the world – creating Gently Soap.

“I overcome doubters by keeping in mind who I’m building my company for. After being bullied as a child for my skin, I pushed forward and used that hurt to build a brand all about joy and embracing the skin you’re in - no matter how itchy, irritated or sensitive it is,” Kristen said.

More to love: UPS is proud to champion the next generation of dreamers who aren’t waiting to make their marks. To further our commitment, we’re donating $25,000 to Junior Achievement to support youth entrepreneurial programs. Check out more from our partnership.

“Supporting programs that inspire and empower students to pursue entrepreneurship is crucial,” said Junior Achievement USA President Tim Greinert. “When we equip young leaders with the skills and mindset needed to innovate and lead, everyone benefits.”
