What’s the story: Janice Mohamed is a proud UPSer who’s empowering the LGBTQ+ community through advocacy. Her leadership inspires people to bring their authentic selves to the workplace.

“Throughout my life, there has always been a nagging feeling,” said Janice. “What are the people I work with going to think if I come out?”

Tough choices: When Janice was new to the company, she struggled with how to introduce herself and her true identity. She decided to create a moment and share her life experience with her team.

“There are still LGBTQ+ people out there in the business world who may not feel comfortable coming out. Being a good ally means helping them feel safe bringing their true selves to work.”

That moment of bravery inspired Janice to actively campaign for human rights in the workplace and in her private life through organizations like the European Transgender Symposium, Workplace Pride International Conference and the ILGA World Conference.

In her words: “I’m proud to work for an organization like UPS. Our leaders empower and celebrate the uniqueness of every UPSer … and with that, everyone can bring their authentic selves and give their best.”

Allyship at UPS:

  • UPS was ranked by the Human Rights Campaign as one of the best places to work for LGBTQ+ equality in 2021.
  • UPS is partnered with the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) to provide direct financial support to 13 LGBTQ+-owned businesses in the U.S., U.K. and Germany.
