What is new: This winter, seven military veterans will be the first to join UPS’ new management training programme designed to help veterans like them quickly transition from active duty to civilian work – and a UPS career.

Why it matters: Transitioning from the military can be challenging, but service members bring important skillsets to UPS, as well as shared values like accountability, integrity and service to others.

‘Veterans have mortgages and families to support after they leave active military duty’, said Jeff Grant, West Region HR vice president. ‘This is a great way to provide them full-time work while helping them apply their skills in a culture that understands and appreciates the qualities they bring.’

In the fast lane: The new nine-week training – launched through a partnership with a local veterans agency – is a deep dive into how UPS works and a fast track to a full-time management position in delivery operations. The programme includes:

  • Graduating from Integrad, UPS’ premier driver training programme.
  • Mastering fundamentals of a driver’s job by delivering parcels through the Christmas holidays peak season.
  • Completing essential while working management training: safety methods, preload, telematics and labour training to do their jobs efficiently.

The programme is currently being piloted in California with plans to expand to Texas next year.
