Chris Brown was a contract driver with FedEx. He had no health benefits and was making $45,000 a year for full-time work.
‘Then I started learning more about UPS, about the opportunity’, he said. ‘I knew I needed to make a change.’
He did, joining UPS as a seasonal driver in 2017.
Today, the husband and father of two – with a third due in April – is a full-time UPS delivery driver in Boston. He is making well over twice what he was with full benefits, including a pension.
‘It is the ultimate peace of mind‘, he said. ‘I did not finish college, and to be able to make six figures is nice. But the benefits were so important to my family.’
It is no wonder he is so involved with UPS’ employee referral programme.
Last year, more than 20 people joined UPS through his referrals, helping him pull in nearly $6,000 in rewards. His efforts helped ensure his team had enough people to deliver for customers, and even meant some shorter days for him during UPS’ busiest time of the year.
‘During peak, I was home for dinner with my family‘, he said. ‘It was a big positive all-around. And a coworker of mine said it was the best peak ever for him as well.’
Chris leaned on Facebook to find future UPSers. He posted to pages he was a member of, reaching family, friends and others in his circle. He asked people to message him so he could go over the job and make sure it was a fit before he would submit.
‘It was smooth’, he said.
Now he is ready to get after it again.
Want to join Chris? UPS is hiring more than 100,000 seasonal workers. Last year, over a third of our seasonal employees (35,000) earned permanent positions after the Christmas holidays.
