Women to watch
UPS Flight Forward blazes trail in drone industry with women leading the way.
At UPS Flight Forward (UPSFF) women occupy positions in business development, engineering, human resources, maintenance, flight operations and more. And the resulting success is undeniable. In just one year of operation, UPSFF developed a highly effective drone delivery use case, transporting medical samples and equipment between locations on hospital campuses faster than ground vehicles.
Featured at the Commercial UAV Expo
UPSFF had a role at the Commercial UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Expo when four women team members spoke at the virtual event via a video panel about their roles, including their advocacy for women in the drone industry. The panelists talked about their experiences navigating a male-dominated industry. It was not always easy, but dedication and persistence pays off.
Driven – or flown – by innovation x2
Flight Forward has been named the winner of the 2020 AUVSI XCELLENCE Award by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International (AUVSI). This award honours innovators with a demonstrated commitment to advancing autonomy, leading and promoting safe adoption of unmanned systems and developing programmes that use these technologies to save lives and improve the human condition.
The group was also recognised by Women and Drones, a global networking platform for women who work in the drone industry. In an award sponsored by Women and Drones and Fox Corporation, UPSFF received the 2020 Fox Piloting Innovation Award.
UPS cultivates technology that tests the boundaries of logistics. But to be successful, a diverse and inclusive team – with women in leadership positions – is crucial.
