What is new: At UPS, we are committed to forging a brighter future through education. That is why we are partnering with Junior Achievement Europe (JA Europe). We are bringing impactful projects to life and are working with organisations like JA Europe to address education barriers and create economic opportunities for under-served and under-represented communities.
- UPS pledges to volunteer 1,000 hours mentoring young students and refugees. Our volunteer mentors across Germany, Italy and the UK will help prepare them for employment and entrepreneurship.
- Part of a $150,000 grant from The UPS Foundation will help develop Junior Achievement’s pan-European Virtual Career Hub, helping youth-in-need transition to employment.
- UPS delivered 1,300 laptops for Ukrainian students in Slovakia, Lithuania, Poland, Moldova and Ukraine.
The UPS Foundation is focused on economic empowerment and local engagement through volunteerism, which is why our partnership with JA Europe is a good fit. Since 2011, UPSers have contributed more than 24 million volunteer hours to the communities where they live and work, and our goal is to meet our 30 million hours target by 2030.
Why it matters: JA Europe is the largest non-profit in Europe providing education programmes for entrepreneurship, work readiness and the skills they need to manage money. UPS volunteers will focus on equipping young people with skills and hands-on experience necessary to enter the job market.
‘UPS started as a small business over a century ago. We know entrepreneurship is key to unlocking prosperity, which is why we offer programs like the Women Exporters Programme and the Green Exporters Programme for small businesses’, said UPS Europe President Daniel Carrera.
Go deeper: The UPS Foundation has been partnering with Junior Achievement USA for nearly 40 years and has contributed over $5.5 million in funding. UPS CEO Carol B. Tomé was even inducted into the JA of Georgia Business Hall of Fame in 2013 and Daniel Carrera was recently appointed to JA Europe’s board of directors.
