UPS Workforce Development Initiatives Featured At Roundtable With White House Advisor

Driver training facility an example of innovative hands-on skills development and safety instruction for driver trainees

UPS, a leader in global logistics, (NYSE: UPS) hosted Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp today for a tour of its state-of-the-art Integrad driver training facility to see the company’s workforce programs in action. UPS Chairman and CEO David Abney also led a roundtable with Ms. Trump and the Georgia Governor to talk with UPS employees who have benefitted from the company’s robust career development and job training programs.

“UPS is proud to be a part of the Administration’s Workforce Development program and is committed to providing workers with the training and skills needed to succeed in today’s ever-changing economy,” said David Abney, Chairman and CEO of UPS. “Our aim is to help them prepare for rewarding positions that meet both their short-term goals and create opportunities for life-long careers.”

Last July, UPS signed the Pledge to America’s Workers in support of President Trump’s Workforce Development Initiative and committed to offer career advancement opportunities to over 50,000 union and non-union UPS employees.

As one of the world’s largest employers with more than 454,000 employees, UPS is a leader in delivering workforce training and mentorship programs that emphasize the development of professional skills, safety and efficiency. In 2017 alone, UPS invested nearly $1 billion in employee training programs.

The company’s training programs have helped employees across the country and around the world advance their careers. In fact, many UPS executives, including Chairman and CEO David Abney, started as part-time employees.

UPS provides various advancement opportunity programs in areas such as safety training, education assistance and veterans support. UPS Integrad, along with a Comprehensive Health and Safety Process (CHSP), help improve workplace safety and decrease accidents and injuries.

UPS offers three tuition assistance programs that help part- and full-time UPS employees achieve their educational goals. These programs include Earn & Learn; Metropolitan College in the Louisville, Kentucky area; and the Chicagoland Regional College Program.

For veterans, UPS offers a multitude of opportunities, such as Department of Labor-certified apprenticeships and U.S. Air Force-approved training programs.

About UPS Integrad

UPS Integrad provides state-of-the-art training to UPS drivers. The curriculum combines 3D computer simulations, webcast learning modules, traditional classroom instruction and virtual reality (VR) experiences, providing hands-on safety, delivery and customer experience training to new UPS drivers. The first UPS Integrad opened in Landover, Maryland in 2007, and there are now nine UPS Integrad facilities in U.S. To date, more than 7,500 drivers and 1,500 driver supervisors have completed the training. The program has resulted in lower turnover among new driver candidates and a reduction in accidents and injuries by first-year drivers.
