Derek Russell didn’t expect to be in the business of saving lives. But coming on board for a temporary assignment with UPS Healthcare five years ago, he found a unique opportunity to chart his own course and build a career that was a perfect fit.
From humble beginnings: “He joined my team to help slice and dice data,” explains Derek’s manager, Lea Davis. “He had a thirst for learning.”
Derek quickly proved himself, taking advantage of every opportunity that came his way. And he translated the knowledge and experience he was building into a brand-new role: leading a team working in cold chain – the specialized service that gets critical goods like heart valves, vaccines, pharmaceuticals and more where they’re needed most.
“What's inside of those boxes could be saving lives. You've got pharmaceuticals that are going to various clinics and hospitals, to patients,” Derek said. “It makes me proud to be a part of a supply chain that's providing those life-saving drugs.”
