What’s New: UPS in Latin America just launched a game-changing mobile application that saves time and fuel. The technology can adjust package delivery routes throughout the day as traffic conditions, commitments and delivery orders change.

Why it matters: Efficiency helps us to be more sustainable. The greenest mile is the one not driven. The new Global Pickup Delivery (GPD) app uses advanced problem-solving and engineering algorithms provide drivers with real-time data. The app is a win-win. Customers get agile and efficient service that is also an environmentally sustainable solution.

“GPD is a sustainable technology that allows us to better meet our customers’ needs,” says Alex Aponte, LATAM District industrial engineer supervisor and GPD project leader. “It also allows us to comply with customs and import regulations and allows our system flexibility with local networking and communication structures.”

Go Deeper: The app allows real-time communication with drivers and peers, offers proof of delivery and scanning capabilities – all in a small mobile device.

All Latin American countries will use the app, except where operations already count on our iconic UPS DIAD (Delivery Information Acquisition Device) which offers similar functionalities.

Bottom line: At UPS, we set a goal to be carbon neutral by 2050. To achieve this goal, we are reimagining our network through an innovation-driven strategy like the GDP app.
