What’s the story: An estimated 129,000 items of clothing are thrown away every minute in the U.S., but fashion waste is a global problem resulting in an enormous impact on the environment.

A sustainable solution: Although this is happening around the globe, London and Hong Kong have The R Collective.  It’s a social impact business that takes pre-consumer garment and fabric waste destined for the landfill and turns it into premium quality, sustainably produced fashion and corporate gift products.

Check out how fashion waste solutions like reusing and recycling help eliminate landfill gases and reduce the carbon footprint in the video below:

How UPS fits in: The R Collective joined UPS’s carbon neutral program, paying a small fee to offset carbon emissions of shipments. Fees are used for wastewater treatment, reforestation and to reduce both landfill gas and methane destruction.

What they’re saying: “Consumers across the world are buying more consciously and only brands who listen to their consumers can build a future-proof business,” said Christina Dean, founder of The R Collective. “UPS is helping us and the planet to stand the test of time.”

Learn about UPS’s sustainability goals, which include achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
