What’s the story: Helmets save lives. That’s why AIP Foundation and UPS have teamed up to distribute helmets and help raise awareness about road safety in vulnerable Asia-Pacfic communities through their Safety Delivered program.

This year, UPS volunteers have distributed nearly 1,000 helmets in India and more than 4,700 helmets and 9,200 road safety educational materials in Vietnam … and there’s more to come.

Why it matters: Road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young adults from 5-29 years old. Two-wheelers are a popular and affordable form of transportation in India and Vietnam.

Awareness is avoidance: Helmets and road safety education received through the program make a life-saving difference for vulnerable children on their way to and from school.

Ongoing work: UPS and AIP Foundation have been working together since 2011 to promote road safety initiatives in low- and middle-income countries in Asia-Pacific. In addition to India and Vietnam, the Safety Delivered program is also presently active in Thailand and the Philippines.

Public awareness campaigns include art contests for the children, and messaging spread in hospitals and on Facebook.

Since 2011, UPS volunteers have distributed over 82,000 helmets. Through a combination of education, public outreach and policy advocacy we’re making a difference in communities we serve.
