Spearheaded by The UPS Foundation, the global philanthropic and corporate citizenship arm of UPS, the Global Volunteer Month mobilizes UPS employees around the world, together with their families and friends, to give back to the communities in which they live and work.

In the Philippines, UPS employees took part in the following community initiatives:

  • ‘Renovate to Educate’, a program by the non-profit organization, Teach for the Philippines, which repairs, refurbishes and restores classrooms all over the country with the aim of providing conducive learning environments for children. UPS employees, together with their family and friends made tables and repainted chairs for students of Don Galo Elementary School in Paranaque, a Teach for the Philippines partner school.
  • ‘Be an Aunt or Uncle for a Day’ by SOS Children’s Village, an international non-governmental organization that cares for orphaned or abandoned children in Manila and Cebu. Children under the organization’s care are looked after by an SOS mother, who helps raise the children. Volunteers organized games, served meals to the children and their SOS mothers, and held a motivational talk for the children.
  • Visions of Hope’s kinaBOOKasan activity, where volunteers read ‘Ang Puting Sapatos’ to underprivileged children and made friendship bracelets with them. “We are committed to making a positive impact in the communities we live and work in,” said Chris Buono, Managing Director of UPS Philippines. “This year’s activities focused on providing support to the children in these communities allowing us to attend to some of their basic every day needs and brighten their lives in the process too.”

More than 4,500 UPS volunteers across operations in Asia Pacific dedicated their time to close to 200 community service projects for this year’s Global Volunteer Month. Over 20,000 hours were donated throughout the region in support of activities ranging from fundraising to sustain disadvantaged communities, to student mentoring and senior care, from teaching of sustainable skills and reinforcing local environmental conservation and clean-up activities, to food resourcing and sustainability efforts.
