  • UPS solution offers convenient delivery and pick-up for items requiring adult signatures, including wine and beer shipments
  • Service ideal for consumers in wine and beer clubs offers tracking and delivery windows to decrease missed deliveries
  • The delivery to a business location provides for a safe and secure option for adult signature packages

Here’s something to cheer about: UPS (NYSE: UPS) made it easier to have a taste of Napa Valley or your favorite brews shipped easily and quickly.

UPS today announced that more than 10,000 of its UPS Access Point locations, including many The UPS Stores and Michaels, can now accept packages requiring adult signatures, giving consumers increased control over when and where they sign for and receive deliveries. Michaels also offers in-store pick-up as well as an option for contactless, curbside pick-up in many locations.

The offering allows consumers to select where their package will be delivered and picked up, a four-hour delivery window and the option to reschedule the delivery date if needed. Additionally, shippers benefit by shipping to a secure location where temperatures can be controlled and safety is guaranteed on the first delivery. When combined with the next-day air option, businesses such as wineries and breweries can quickly and efficiently ship valuable products without expensive thermal packaging.

“UPS is constantly innovating and unveiling new ways for consumers to receive deliveries,” said Bill Smith, UPS vice president of marketing. “In this case, we’re giving both shippers and consumers a reason to celebrate additional choice, control and convenience in the delivery process.”

Eric Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Wineshipping, a fulfillment company based in Napa, California, says this ensures customers get their wine delivered effortlessly. “Now, customers can shop for their favorite variety and not have to worry about when and where it will arrive,” he said.  “Wine can be picked up and signed for at a secure location and then easily enjoyed.”

In this case, the pick-up options tap into the robust UPS Access Point network locations, which UPS is expanding to meet the growing and changing demands of the e-commerce era. UPS was a pioneer when it introduced Access Points to allow customers more flexibility in the delivery process. By the end of the year, UPS expects to have more than 22,000 locations nationwide. Some 92 percent of the U.S. population is within five miles of a UPS Access Point location.
