UPS (NYSE: UPS) has launched Saturday pick-up for international shipments from the U.S. to 57 key international markets, including Taiwan. Orders can now be processed in the U.S. on Sunday and delivered to Asian destinations one day faster than before – boosting the prospects of Asian businesses that import products from the United States.

“Taiwanese imports from the U.S. totaled 28.7 billion U.S. dollars from January to October 20181, and this expedited transit time means an opportunity for manufacturing production lines to start earlier and retailers to restock faster,” said Sam Hung, Managing Director of UPS Taiwan.

“With more high-tech manufacturers choosing to move their production lines to Taiwan2, these businesses are constantly seeking faster and more efficient delivery solutions. UPS’s Saturday pick-up service means they will now be able to receive vital imported components in even less time.”

Many businesses in Taiwan import from the U.S., with a particular emphasis on electrical machinery products and machinery products, which account for 36.3%3 of all imports from the U.S., demonstrating the important role American suppliers play in Taiwan’s tech and manufacturing industry.

“One day can make all the difference when it comes to customers deciding to place an order,” said Ross McCullough, President, UPS Asia Pacific Region. “As Asia’s middle class continues to grow along with demand for imported parts and products from the U.S., we’re bolstering service along our U.S.-Asia trade lanes to effectively reduce the geographic gap between Asia and America, making it more efficient for businesses that do already import goods from the U.S., while also making it a more viable option for those that haven’t yet started to import. By connecting these businesses to our smart global logistics network that moves three percent of the world’s GDP daily, UPS can help them meet their customers’ expectations and compete globally.”

In addition to helping Taiwanese businesses, the new Saturday export pick-up service will benefit U.S. businesses that want to ship exports six days per week or need a rush on weekend orders. It expands UPS’s existing portfolio of Saturday ground delivery and pick-up services for its U.S. customers, launched in 2017, which was one of the largest time-in-transit improvements in the company’s 110-year history.

With a faster delivery that enhances their online experience and builds the retailers’ brand, UPS’s enhanced service also means a reduced chance of online shoppers abandoning shopping carts. Online retailers in Taiwan looking to sell U.S. products therefore benefit from fewer lost sales due to enhanced shipping options and fewer items being out of stock.

When paired with Alternative Delivery Locations, which offer online shoppers a convenient place to pick up shipments in markets like Hong Kong and Taiwan, this service expansion significantly enhances Taiwan importers’ ability to get packages to their customers where and when they want them delivered.

Additionally, this enhanced service benefits multiple industries with a global customer base ranging from automotive and high-tech to healthcare as they stand to gain from this additional operating day. It enables them to add a sixth day to ship internationally providing an opportunity to turn inventory faster, utilize space more efficiently, and increase productivity.

The other 56 destination countries are located across Asia Pacific, the Americas, and Europe, with more key markets to be added later this year.
