An in-kind shipment from The UPS Foundation brought more than 250,000 doses of the AstraZeneca and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines from the Czech Republic to Vietnam’s Noi Bai International Airport Aug. 27.
Two pre-conditioned storage units with temperatures ranging from 2-8 degrees Celsius were used for the AstraZeneca doses, and another unit with a pre-set temperature of -20 degrees Celsius housed the Moderna vaccines.
“UPS is proud to deliver COVID-19 vaccines and medical supplies to Vietnam and aid in the fight against the pandemic,” said Matt Parkey, president of UPS South Asia Pacific. “Since the pandemic began, UPS has helped keep the world moving by delivering life-saving medical supplies, everyday necessities and vaccines to communities around the globe. It is our privilege to provide our global network, resources and logistics expertise to support Vietnam’s COVID-19 relief efforts and build more resilient communities.”
The shipment is part of UPS’s commitment to supporting equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide by providing logistics expertise to vaccine manufacturers and NGO partners to manage and streamline deliveries. UPS has delivered over 600 million COVID-19 vaccines globally and is on track to deliver at least one billion vaccines by the end of 2021.
In addition to the vaccine shipment, The UPS Foundation recently donated a shipment of personal protective equipment (PPE) from the U.S.’s Project Cure to Ho Chi Minh’s Department of Health.
