Carol B. Tomé letter to UPSers

Perspective after first year as CEO

Dear UPSers,

Before I officially started in this role one year ago, I thought I knew UPS pretty well. I’d been on the board of directors for 17 years and had a good view of the company.

But I soon realized I didn’t know it nearly as well as I thought. As COVID took hold and our lives suddenly and drastically shifted, I was blown away by UPSers’ ability to react.

There’s no playbook for something like that. But you faced it without fear. Because UPSers work together and solve problems. You take care of each other and help our customers adapt to situations that change moment by moment.

A year later, I have a much deeper appreciation and respect for the professionalism, agility, humility and sense of service I see in the UPSers I meet. And the world sees it too. Someone asked me recently what makes me so optimistic about the future of UPS. To me, it’s simple.

We can do anything. That’s the absolute truth.

This is a unique time in human history and we have a respected brand that’s been around for 114 years. There’s so much opportunity for us to grow, to use our scale and expertise to move our world forward.

We’re a global logistics leader in a position to make a real difference, to deliver what matters. It’s an exciting place to be. It’s also a big responsibility. And you know what? We’re the ones to do it.

I’m incredibly proud of the job you do. And I’m honored to be on this journey with you.

So to every UPSer around the world I say thank you … and let’s keep having some fun and kicking some ass.

With a full heart and the utmost admiration,

Carol
